Russian President Vladimir Putin has had a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which the leaders discussed various issues, including economic cooperation, the Kremlin said on Sunday.
"In continuation of the conversation held in Kazan on October 23 [at the BRICS Summit], relevant issues of bilateral agenda with an emphasis on enhancing the effectiveness of the trade and economic cooperation have been discussed in detail," the statement read.
The leaders also discussed a number of international issues, the statement added.
The Turkish president’s office has said that Erdogan told Putin about his country’s intentions to expand trade with Russia.
"President Erdogan stated that they aim to further the cooperation between Turkiye and Russia in many areas, the enhancement of the trade volume in particular," the office said on X.
In October, Erdogan attended the BRICS Summit in the Russian city of Kazan and held several meetings, including with Putin. During the meeting, the Russian and Turkish leaders discussed various issues, including bilateral relations, the conflict in Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East.
