Vowing to audit the previous government's handling of the economy, Mauritius' newly elected Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam stated that he will retain the post of finance minister for himself to personally oversee the situation.
"We are conducting an audit of the economy to assess the damage inflicted by the outgoing government," Ramgoolam told reporters after appointing his cabinet.
Earlier, Ramgoolam secured a landslide victory, winning 60 out of 62 National Assembly seats for his coalition. He plans to both audit public finances and continue the economic diversification efforts he began during his previous tenures (1995-2000 and 2005-2014).
