Russia has submitted materials on the commission of genocide in Donbass by Ukraine to the International Court of Justice, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

"The Russian Federation has submitted to the International Court of Justice materials on Ukraine's commission of genocide in Donbass," the ministry said in a statement.

Russia will continue its efforts to hold Kiev internationally accountable for atrocities against the people of Donbass, and Kiev will have to respond to the Russian side's counter memorandum at the UN International Court of Justice, the ministry added.

"Now Ukraine will have to respond to the Russian side's counter memorandum," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry added that further stages of the written procedure were expected.
"The final decision will be taken after the completion of all necessary procedures and the oral hearings in The Hague," the ministry concluded.
