Zimbabwe's government is prioritizing media sovereignty and widespread access to information through the second phase of Zim Digital, a government initiative aimed at expanding digital media and access to information and communication technology nationwide, Jenfan Muswere, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister of Zimbabwe, said.
Muswere highlighted the importance of a media ecosystem that allows for two-way communication between the government and citizens, a key component in Zimbabwe's vision of becoming an upper-middle-income nation by 2030. This includes expanding television and radio coverage nationwide.
He also stressed the importance of effective coverage of the economic achievements of the country through the media.
The minister also emphasized the need for improved coordination between the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), Transmedia, and Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC). He also stated that the restructuring of the Ministry of Information and its state-owned enterprises, including ZBC, Transmedia, BAZ, and state media Zimpapers, is nearing completion, with a focus on streamlining these organizations.
