Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with UN Special Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, in Cairo on Thursday to discuss ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the war-torn country.
"Egypt is keen on preserving Sudan’s interests and maintaining its territorial integrity," Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said during a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, in Cairo on Thursday.
The Egyptian diplomat added that Cairo is involved in regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a cease-fire and settlement in the war-torn country "to end the suffering of the Sudanese people" and to safeguard "Sudan's interests, sovereignty and territorial integrity".
The meeting also focused on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan and explored potential solutions to the conflict that has gripped the nation since April 2023, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
