Africa in Trouble Unless Trump Continues to Ignore Continent, Pan-Africanist Says

The US foreign policy is not meaningful for Africa as it does not lead to any progress or development for the continent and with the shift in the global landscape, African countries have increased ties with the BRICS alliance, a Nigerian political science expert professor, Sheriff Ghali, Ibrahim told Sputnik Africa earlier.

Hopefully, the US President-elect Donald Trump will continue to ignore Africa because if the US starts to focus on any continent, it results in problems, pan-Africanist and social activist Nathalie Yamb told Sputnik on the sidelines of the first Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Russia's Sochi.

"I hope Trump will continue to ignore Africa. I only welcome this decision. When the US starts paying attention to you, it means you have big problems," Yamb said at the ministerial conference.

Africa would be better off if the US concentrated on "making America great again," reconsidered its relationship with Europe, dealt with illegal migration and paid no attention at all to Africa, she added.

"I don't see Trump as a friend of Africa. He has nothing to do here; a lot depends not only on him. The American system of statehood is organized in such a way that the president does not have all the power; it is a complex system. Will this system change the way it looks at Africa? I don't think so," the activist emphasized.

However, Trump, who was a Republican presidential candidate, is less toxic than the Democratic one, incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, according to her.
