Five African countries were among the top-10 largest importers of Russian wheat in July-October, Rusgrain Union said in a statement.
Among the countries of the continent, two of them are located in the Sub-Saharan region.
The list of African countries includes:
Egypt – 4,304,000 tonnes;
Algeria – 1,485,000 tonnes;
Kenya – 973,000 tonnes;
Morocco – 557,000 tonnes;
Nigeria – 651,000 tonnes.
According to the Rusgrain Union’s statement, Morocco and Nigeria have increased their import of Russian wheat significantly. Morocco, in particular, raised imports multiple times, from 115,000 tonnes last July-October to 557,000 tonnes, importing 500,000 tonnes over the entire July 2023-June 2024 season.
Nigeria increased its imports 3.1 times, from 158,000 tonnes to 651,000 tonnes.
