A body of a migrant from Somalia was found near the Belarusian-Latvian border, Belarus’ Border Committee said. In addition, the board guards came across another migrant, who was alive.
"Today, on November 5, border guards found two refugees from Somalia near the border with Latvia, one of them was already dead," the committee said in a statement.
According to one of the refugees, who was cited by the committee, two of them were detained by Latvian security forces and severely beaten. Because of serious injuries, his friend lost consciousness and then died.
The Belarusian Border Committee noted that the Latvian police officers later disposed of the body, throwing it onto the Belarusian side.
According to the Belarusian Border Committee, since 2021, 59 refugees have died on the border between Belarus and the EU countries, and "hundreds of foreigners seeking protection in the West have been maimed and beaten."
