The Ynet news portal reported earlier this week, citing high-ranking Israeli officials, that Israel is actively negotiating a settlement with Lebanon, with the participation of the US, and is interested in Russia playing a special role in ensuring compliance with the future agreement.
"As for Lebanon, we are in contact with all of them. I have not heard such proposals. We, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, are working on the Resolution 1701, actively participate in all discussions that are taking place in New York and other venues, and in the course of bilateral contacts. We are ready, of course, to make our contribution to the establishment of peace and stability," Bogdanov said when asked if Russia received proposals to become a guarantor of a possible agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
On October 1, Israel started a ground operation targeting Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, aimed at facilitating the return of 60,000 displaced Israelis from the north. This move is perceived as a response to Hezbollah's attacks last year, which were provoked by Israel's actions in Gaza.
