Sputnik Africa is live as Russian President Vladimir Putin engages in discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Putin meets the Ethiopian prime minister for the first time this year. They met last July, when Abiy Ahmed came to St. Petersburg for the Russia-Africa summit.
During the expanded session of the BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia, on Wednesday, the prime minister expressed that BRICS has the potential to be a driving force in establishing a more equitable global order. He also highlighted the BRICS group as a significant opportunity for developing nations, particularly in securing funding to address the impacts of climate change.
The BRICS Summit in Kazan was one of the largest meetings of world leaders in Russia in many years, along with the G20 in St. Petersburg in 2013 and the Russia-Africa summits in Sochi and St. Petersburg in 2019 and 2023.
