BRICS Offers Discussions ‘on Equal Terms,’ Unlike West, Journalist Says

From October 22 to 24, the BRICS Summit is taking place in Russia's Kazan. It is the largest foreign policy event in Russia this year, with 36 countries participating, according to Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, with 22 of them at the highest level.

Africa has "audited relations with Europe" and sees that BRICS offers another way, Prince Aristide Ngueukam, publishing director of the magazine Forum Libre International, told Sputnik Africa.
"We, Africans, have been accustomed to the G7. Today, the BRICS offer a different narrative, telling us that states will discuss as equals. It's not the colonization we experienced with European countries," he said.
Vladimir Putin follows the same logic when he offers collaborations, as seen at the Russia-Africa summit, the expert added.
"These are heads of state who sit down, discuss cooperation, discuss what they can do for their country, discuss the development of the countries of the continent," he explained.
African countries "have a very strong interest in joining the BRICS," the expert concluded.
