The fight for the post of US president between Vice President Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump remains extremely tense and does not yet allow for a clear favorite to be identified, a poll conducted by research company SSRS for the US broadcaster showed.
Harris is supported by 48% of voters across the country, while 47% of respondents are ready to vote for Trump, the report said on Tuesday. Among independent voters, Harris is ahead of Trump by a small margin - 45% to 41%. The majority of female independent voters support Harris - 51% to 36%, while the majority of male independent voters prefer Trump (47% to 40%), the report added.
At the same time, 55% of young voters under 30 also support Harris, while only 38% are ready to vote for Trump, the poll said.
In addition, 12% of respondents reportedly admitted they could still change their minds.
The poll was conducted from September 19-22 and surveyed 2,000 people.
