More than 170 people were killed in a petrol truck explosion in northern Nigeria, and another 70 were hospitalized in critical condition, local media reported on Friday, citing police reports.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Lawan Shiisu Adam reportedly confirmed in a statement that those injured are receiving intensive care across several medical facilities, including the Federal Medical Centers in Azare, Nguru, and Birnin Kudu. Other hospitals are also treating numerous individuals for various injuries sustained in the explosion.
In September, a truck transporting passengers and animals crashed with a petrol tanker in northwest Niger state, killing at least 59 people, according to local media.
