Oil Refinery Construction in Congo Could Be Next Step Amid Pipeline Deal With Russia, Consul Says

Earlier, the Congo's Minister of International Cooperation, Denis-Christel Sassou-Nguesso, told media that the Pointe-Noire–Maluko oil pipeline construction would start soon. The agreement was signed at the 7th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Congolese mixed commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation and trade.

The Republic of Congo is expecting to jointly build an oil refinery with Russia. The country's honorary consul in St. Petersburg, Jocelin Patrick Mandzela, told Russian media.
"Our country has great potential in the gas sector, in hydroelectric power generation, in wind and solar energy, as Congo's Minister of Hydrocarbons, Bruno Jean-Richard Itua, recently stated. An oil refinery with Russian participation is also expected to be built in Congo. An agreement has already been signed on the construction of a pipeline to transport oil products. The construction of the refinery could be the next step," Mandzela said.
The consul stressed that his country is also ready to actively cooperate with Russian companies in agriculture and tourism.

"Not long ago there was an intergovernmental commission, during which Congo and Russia signed a number of agreements. There were private meetings with major Russian companies. I cannot disclose the details yet, but I am sure that we will soon see the results," the consul added.
