Sri Lanka Decides to Officially Apply to Join BRICS

BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established in 2006. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. The year began with the accession of new members to the association; in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, it now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

Sri Lanka has decided to formally apply to join BRICS, the country's Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath announced on Monday.
Vijitha Herath noted that the move reflects the country's desire to deepen ties with emerging economies and broaden its multilateral partnerships.
