White House Says Alleged Trump-Putin Phone Calls 'Concerning'

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US investigative journalist Bob Woodward claimed in his new book "War" that Trump has held a number of private conversations by telephone with Putin since 2021, according to CNN, which obtained an advance copy of the book.

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said on Wednesday that it would be "concerning" if former US President Donald Trump has been holding periodic phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"It is concerning, especially when we know the former president was lobbying against more aid for Ukraine, [aid] to Ukraine to defend themselves against Russia's aggression. So if true, it is concerning," Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing.

The spokesperson made the comment in response to a question regarding allegations about phone calls between Trump and Putin after the former US president left office.
However, Jean-Pierre said she could not confirm that any such phone calls took place.

Trump’s presidential campaign denied the claims and criticized the descriptions in Woodward's book as inaccurate.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected the claims, dismissing them as being "not true."
