The Republic of the Congo is ready to cooperate with Russian companies in the electric power industry, and it has great potential for gas and hydropower generation, wind and solar energy, Minister of Hydrocarbons of Congo Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua told Sputnik.

"But we are always open to discussing cooperation with other companies in the power sector. We have a very big potential in gas generation, hydro, solar and wind power. We are currently working on the construction of dams, and we have three major projects in the works. For one of the dams, we are considering cooperation with a Russian company," he said when asked whether Congo is discussing joint projects in the electric power industry with Russian companies.

The minister recalled that during the official visit of the president of the Congo to Russia in June, an agreement of intent was signed with Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom on cooperation in the field of renewable and nuclear energy. He noted that specialists from the Russian corporation had already visited the country.
