Kiev's Attack on Kursk Region Undermined 'Ukraine is Victim' Narrative, Russian Diplomat Says

VIENNA (Sputnik) - At 5:30 am on August 6, Ukrainian Armed Forces units launched an offensive to seize territory in the Kursk region, their advance was stopped, Russia's Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov said. He emphasized that the operation in the Kursk region would be completed by defeating the enemy and reaching the state border.

The Ukrainian forces' attack on Kursk region undermined the narrative that Ukraine is a "victim," Yulia Zhdanova, acting head of the Russian delegation at the Vienna talks on military security and arms control, said in an interview with Sputnik.
As the diplomat noted, the Russian delegation at the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation (FSC) meetings is demonstrating real evidence of the deep involvement of a number of Western states in Ukraine's attack on Kursk region — in this "suicidal adventure of the Kiev regime."
"And the opponents are well aware that it is of precisely this nature. Firstly, the foray into Russian territory — the territory of a foreign state — undermined the pseudo-argumentation promoted by the Kiev-Western 'fusion' on all international platforms, according to which Ukraine is a 'victim' and Russia is an 'aggressor.' After all, now the whole world can see the true face of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which are looting, brutalizing civilians and generally behaving like a pack of animals," Zhdanova said.
Secondly, the military plans of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are objectively failing, the diplomat noted.
"Russian troops are highly effective in repelling the attempted invasion of enemy forces into Russian soil. That is why the topic of the atrocities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region seems very inconvenient for Western counterparts — in the official plane, they are trying to 'sweep it under the carpet,'" she explained.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Kiev regime had carried out a provocation, was conducting indiscriminate shooting, including at civilian targets. Putin said that the enemy would receive a worthy response, all goals facing Russia would be achieved.
As the Russian Defense Ministry reported on October 6, during the fighting in the Kursk direction, the enemy lost more than 20,800 soldiers and 136 tanks.
In the Kursk, as well as the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, a counter-terrorism operation regime is in effect to ensure the safety of citizens.
