Burkina Faso will revoke mining permits from some foreign companies and increase its own gold production. While Traore did not name the specific companies affected, the move signals a shift towards greater control over the nation's mineral resources, the country's leader, Ibrahim Traore, announced on Saturday.
"We know how to mine our gold, and I don't understand why we're going to let multinationals come and mine it," said Ibrahim Traoré, adding that the county is going to withdraw mining permits without specifying which ones.
Several international mining companies operate in Burkina Faso, including Endeavour Mining (UK), West African Resources (Australia), Nordgold (Russia), and Orezone Gold Corporation (Canada).
