Russia has promised to send humanitarian aid to Lebanon in response to the Israeli land incursion, Lebanese Ambassador to Russia Chawki Bou Nassar told Sputnik, adding it was due to arrive in the coming days.
"Russia is making efforts for which we are grateful. [Russian Deputy Foreign Minister] Mikhail Bogdanov informed me that the Russian Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies, and Disaster Relief's plane will fly to Lebanon on Thursday to deliver various types of humanitarian aid and medical supplies, and we thank Russia for this step," the ambassador said.
Mikhail Bogdanov discussed the military and political situation in the Middle East and humanitarian aid for Lebanon during a meeting with the Lebanese ambassador on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
On Monday, Israel announced the start of a limited military ground operation in southern Lebanon, with reportedly no plans to occupy any areas of the country permanently.
The situation on the Israeli-Lebanese border aggravated after the start of Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The Israeli military and Hezbollah fighters exchange fire almost daily in areas along the border.
