Russia plays a crucial role in global food security and agricultural development, especially in Africa, Sierra Leone's Ambassador to Russia Mohamed Yongawo said on the sidelines of the international conference "Russia-Africa: Global Challenges to Food Security" at the round table "Russia-Africa: Challenges of Food Security."
"Russia is responsible for wheat production in the world; it knows what to do [for world food security]," Yongawo said.
Moreover, Russia can supply fertilizer to other countries, the diplomat added.
“The dialogue between Russia and Africa is a huge dividend for the development of [world] agriculture. If we don't intensify it, our people will remain hungry,” the ambassador emphasized.
Yongawo emphasized the pressing need to address the continent's technological deficiencies, outdated equipment, and the alarming exodus of young people from rural areas.
