Uganda's largest hydropower plant (HPP), the 600-megawatt Karuma facility, was officially inaugurated by President Yoweri Museveni today.

“Karuma HPP is set to reduce the overall weighted average generation tariff. The efforts to reduce the end-user tariff remain a key aspiration of the country as an enabler for social and economic transformation,” stated the Electricity Regulatory Authority, a government agency regulating Uganda's electricity sector.

With the addition of the Karuma HPP, Uganda's total electricity generation capacity is expected to increase to nearly 2,000 megawatts.
