Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan outlined the country's plan to increase the value of coffee exports to $500 million by 2029 during a visit to Aviv Tanzania Limited's coffee plantations.
Increasing the value of coffee exports will also reduce government borrowing and dependence on foreign loans, the president said.
The plan calls for increased government funding for the agricultural sector, including the recruitment of extension workers and the distribution of coffee seedlings to farmers.

The government also simplified the coffee buying process through online platforms and faster payments. President Hassan stressed the importance of training farmers, protecting the environment, and meeting foreign market standards.
Recent reports show that world coffee prices have reached their highest level since 2008. Despite this, experts predict a 2.2% increase in global coffee consumption this year.
