African Energy Chamber Expands Lawsuit Against Companies Accused of Damaging Africa's Energy Sector

The African Energy Chamber (AEC), a non-profit organization advocating for the development of the African energy sector, is currently involved in a lawsuit against the Hyve Group, a British events company that organizes trade shows and conferences, including Africa Oil Week (AOW).

The AEC recently expanded its lawsuit to include Sankofa Events, a London-based startup that recently acquired AOW.
The AEC alleges unethical practices by both companies and seeks $5 million in damages due to Hyve Group's move of AOW to Dubai in 2020, which marginalized African stakeholders.

“As the voice of the African energy sector, we will continue to fight against all injustices from within the industry. [...] Our aim is to address injustice, complacency and misinformation and with this lawsuit, we aim to shift Africa’s narrative back to the continent itself in order to deliver on our promise to eradicate energy poverty within this decade,” said AEC Executive Chairman NJ Ayuk.
