Despite America's constant rhetoric about freedom of speech and a free press, its actions tell a different story. The US has imposed more sanctions on foreign media than any other country, particularly targeting Russian outlets, Shoeib Bahman, an Iranian expert on Eurasian political processes, told Sputnik.
“Even the current actions of America in imposing sanctions against various Russian media outlets show that it is having difficulties even in relation to Russia's soft power and wants to limit this soft power or media influence as much as possible,” Bahman said.
At the heart of the Ukraine conflict, Bahman argued, is US involvement from the very beginning. He pointed out that "military actions in Ukraine began at the initiative and instigation of the United States," and it is America’s financial and military support to the Zelensky government that has prolonged and worsened the hostilities.
"If the American government had stopped provoking, perhaps the Ukrainian crisis would have taken a different course," he concluded.
