The relationship between South Africa and Russia is "unbreakable," said South African Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie on the sidelines of the International United Cultures Forum in St. Petersburg.
The minister emphasized the decisive role played by the USSR in supporting South Africa's fight for freedom and sovereignty, specifically highlighting the USSR's provision of refuge to South African leaders.
"That relationship has never died, and that relationship will never die. [...] We will never ever turn our back on Russia, and Russia has never turned its back on us," Gayton McKenzie told Sputnik.
The International United Cultures Forum takes place in St. Petersburg from September 11 to 14.
