The joint statement between China and South Africa was released on the occasion of the second state visit to China by the South African president and the establishment of an All-Round Strategic Cooperative Partnership in a New Era.
"Both sides agree to continue strengthening coordination and collaboration under the BRICS mechanism and work for more practical outcomes of cooperation of an expanded BRICS," according to the joint statement.
China and South Africa are calling for a renewed focus on development in international cooperation, aligning their efforts with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, the document says.
In the document, China also acknowledges and commends South Africa's significant contribution to the historic expansion of BRICS membership.
