China, South Africa Aim to Boost BRICS Collaboration, Prioritizing Economic Development

The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing, scheduled for September 4-6, will see African leaders gather to address critical issues and build new collaborations with China. The summit will also include bilateral meetings between participating countries.

The joint statement between China and South Africa was released on the occasion of the second state visit to China by the South African president and the establishment of an All-Round Strategic Cooperative Partnership in a New Era.
"Both sides agree to continue strengthening coordination and collaboration under the BRICS mechanism and work for more practical outcomes of cooperation of an expanded BRICS," according to the joint statement.
China and South Africa are calling for a renewed focus on development in international cooperation, aligning their efforts with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, the document says.
