President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed confidence in South Africa's case before the ICJ to prove ongoing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Addressing the parliament, President Cyril Ramaphosa mentioned that the government's legal team is preparing a comprehensive court memorial to prove ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, nearing 500 pages, due in October. He noted that the memorial includes photographic and video evidence.
John Hlophe, the new leader of the MK Party in the parliament, inquired about steps to ensure that interim measures ordered by the ICJ are implemented in Gaza. Ramaphosa highlighted the support from several nations and court victories to date as proof of the case's strength. The president emphasized that this historic case underscores South Africa's empathy for Palestinians.
"All this is being done to not only support the people of Palestine, but to ensure that we live up to our own values and principles of respect for human rights and for justice," he said.
The government remains committed to advocating for an independent Palestinian state to coexist peacefully with Israel, he added.
