Up to 400,000 people in eight zones and 34 districts around the Amhara region may be in danger of natural catastrophes, according to the Amhara Disaster Prevention and Food Security Commission, during this year's rainy season.
Floods impacted districts with landslides in North Gondar, South Gondar, and Wag Hemra. A landslide in Tselemt, Northwest Tigray, killed 10 people and displaced 3,000, according to Tesfau Batable, head of the Regional Disaster Prevention and Food Security Commission, per local outlet Addis Standard.
Amhara authorities allocated 2,000 tonnes of aid to Tselemt. Heavy rains will continue until September 10, says Ethiopia's National Meteorological Agency. Batable's commission is building reservoirs in 21 at-risk districts and advising residents to evacuate.
