According to French media, the investigating judge handling Durov's detention extended his detention beyond Sunday evening. The French media added that the initial period of detention for questioning in France can last a maximum of 96 hours.
The media also noted that when the initial stage of detention ends, the judge may decide to release Durov or bring charges against him and remand him in custody.
On Saturday evening, French media reported that Durov had been detained at Le Bourget Airport. This happened as he was leaving a private plane, which allegedly arrived from Azerbaijan. Durov, who has French citizenship, was reportedly on the country's wanted list.
The French justice system considers Durov involved in crimes for a number of reasons, including Telegram's refusal to cooperate with the country's authorities. The messenger's founder may be charged with terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, and money laundering, among other things.
The Russian Embassy in France told Sputnik that the French authorities were so far refusing to cooperate regarding Durov's detention.
