Palestine Welcomes Turkey's Decision to Join South Africa's Lawsuit Against Israel, Abbas Says

ANKARA (Sputnik) - Palestine welcomes Turkey's decision to join South Africa's lawsuit against Israel and considers Ankara's trade embargo against Tel Aviv as support for Palestinians, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Thursday.

"We appreciate Turkey's leadership led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. We welcome Turkey's participation in South Africa's lawsuit [against Israel in the UN International Court of Justice]. Turkey has suspended $10 billion worth of trade with Israel in support of the Palestinians," Abbas told the Turkish parliament.
Abbas arrived in Ankara on Wednesday evening to address members of the Turkish parliament on Thursday. Security measures are enhanced around the Turkish parliament, and journalists are allowed in after two stages of inspection, while photography around the building is prohibited.
