Russian manufacturers Polymed prof medical laboratories, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health's Institute of Prevention and Therapy, have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gabonese embassy in Moscow on the provision of mobile medical equipment and presented a mobile health unit designed for medical checkups to promote population health.
This joint project was executed to create a comfortable quality of life and equal access to healthcare. The mobile unit is equipped with an X-ray machine, an ultrasound machine, a mammograph, an ECG device, and an intraocular pressure tonometer.
Partners in this project include Zdorovoe Otechestvo, Bolshoi Serpukhov, Deux mm & Partners, and the president of the International Boxing Association, Umar Kremlev.
Commenting on this, Diane-Prisca Baigni Akimova, Economic and Commercial Advisor in Charge of Communication at the Embassy of the Gabonese Republic in Russia, told Sputnik Africa that the equipment provided by Polymed is highly beneficial, noting that the medical trucks offer the considerable advantage of being deployable anywhere—whether in villages or cities—without the necessity for high-quality hospitals.
Jean-François Monthe, CEO of Deux mm & Partners, in turn highlighted that the memorandum will help check the health of about 1 million people.
The Central African Republic is also looking to get Russian mobile medical units. In early July, the Central African Minister of Health held, as he described it, "excellent" talks in Bangui with a delegation from the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine under the Russian Ministry of Health regarding the delivery of Russian mobile medical units. They also explored the potential of setting up a telemedicine center in the Central African Republic.
