Chad Inaugurates Consulate in Western Sahara

In late July, French President Macron said that his country "considers that the present and future of Western Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty." Algeria-backed Polisario Front reacted by saying that "France is backing the violent and illegal occupation of Western Sahara" while Algeria recalled its ambassador from France.

There has been no official reaction from the Algerian authorities yet.

‘Provocative': Western Sahara Reportedly Condemns France's Plan to Fund Projects in Sahrawi Regions
Western Sahara, previously a Spanish colony, fell under the governance of Morocco and Mauritania in 1975. In 1976, the Polisario Front, a local nationalist group, declared the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in the area.
Since that time, the Algeria-supported Polisario Front has been engaged in conflict with Morocco over control of the region. Presently, Morocco governs approximately 80% of Western Sahara, while the Polisario Front controls the remaining 20%.
