Rwanda now offers the most affordable broadband internet within the East African Community (EAC), surpassing Tanzania and Kenya, according to a new report by British research firm Cable.
Rwanda's advancements in technology and infrastructure, along with increased competition among service providers, have significantly lowered internet costs. Rwandans pay an average of $43.22 per month, down from $60.96 last year, or 29.1%.
Tanzania's average cost, for instance, increased slightly to $43.44 per month, and Kenya's broadband prices decreased marginally to $47.73 per month.
In Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the average cost of broadband internet is $304.57 and $170.97, respectively, and remains high. The average cost of broadband internet in Uganda is $52.59, while it is marginally higher in Somalia at $54.58.
Globally, Sudan offers the lowest rates at $2.40 per month, despite infrastructure challenges. Other low-cost countries include Argentina ($5.17), Belarus ($7.03), and Ukraine ($7.35).
"At the other end of the table, the most expensive was Burundi ($304.57, 222nd, the second-most expensive country in the world), followed by Congo (Democratic Republic of the Congo) ($170.97, 218th) and Mozambique ($118.26, 208th)," the report read.
