Africa's population is growing rapidly due to high birth rates and improvements in healthcare and education, especially for women. Limited contraceptive use compared to other regions also plays a significant role in this growth, according to Israel Olatunji Orubuloye, Professor of Demography and Population Studies and former Vice Chancellor, University of Ado Ekiti, Nigeria.
The Nigerian further explains that as the continent's population expands, economic growth is strengthened by reducing reliance on commodities and embracing economic diversification. This shift stabilizes development and creates new opportunities across various sectors.
“Currently, a lot of diversification in the economy of Africa is taking place. Nigeria, for example, is now trying to move [away] from a monolithic economic situation and diverse the economy into other areas, [such as] technology, ICT [Information and communication technology], and agriculture. And that's a very major factor that is going to prepare the current economic growth in Africa. There are also investments in key growth areas of the economy, like manufacturing,” Orubuloye adds.
