At least six Russian companies, including state-owned Rosoboronexport and Roskosmos, will participate in Africa's largest defense and aviation exhibition, AAD 2024, which will commence in South Africa this September, South African media reported.
The event, which will be held at the Waterkloof Air Force Base near the country's capital, Pretoria, has seen the confirmation of the companies' participation and the presentation of their latest products.
Additionally, Russia may showcase a supersonic Tu-160 strategic bomber at the exhibition. According to the report, a group of seven Russian military specialists visited Waterkloof this week to prepare for the bomber's arrival.
The Tu-160 bombers first visited South Africa in October 2019, coinciding with the Russia-Africa Summit in Sochi.
The agreements on military technical cooperation and cooperation between their respective defense ministries were signed by Russia and South Africa in 1995. Russia and the Southern African Development Community executed a military technical cooperation agreement in August 2018, concurrently with the BRICS summit in South Africa.
