‘Atmosphere of Satanism’: Lebanese Minister Comments on Olympic Games Opening in Paris

The opening of the Olympic Games in Paris has caused discontent among many people who found elements of the performance offensive. Specifically, they felt that certain segments insulted important symbols of the Christian religion. The event stirred controversy and called for an investigation from various quarters.

The Olympic Games should embody the spirit of sportsmanship, not the "atmosphere of satanism" that was witnessed in Paris, Lebanon's Minister of Youth and Sports, Georges Kallas, said.
"I fear for the moral values that France stands for. What should accompany this global event is the spirit of sportsmanship, not the atmosphere of satanism that we saw in Paris," he told Sputnik.

Moreover, he called for an investigation into the offensive "spectacle" at the opening.
"What happened in Paris during the opening of the Olympic Games is indecent and offensive to the dignity of both France and this legendary ceremony. […] It is alarming that this immoral attack against religion went unnoticed and without any appropriate response from the relevant parties. Simply removing the video from social media is not enough," he added.
He also stated that the Olympics, the world's most important sporting event, was "twisted" and "tainted," and all of this will be exploited for political purposes after the event concludes.
The Olympics are being held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
