"The International Court of Justice has delivered today its Advisory Opinion in the proceedings concerning Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem," the statement said.
The secretary-general "will promptly transmit the Advisory Opinion to the General Assembly," the statement added, as it had requested the "Court's advice."
"It is for the General Assembly to decide how to proceed in this matter," the statement read.
On Friday, the UN court issued an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories. The ICJ determined that Israeli settlement development breaches international law and constitutes annexation. The court ordered Israel to halt new settlement activity and its unlawful presence in Palestinian territory, as well as to pay reparations for occupation-related damage.
