On July 19 and 20, the Russian House in the African nation's capital of Lusaka hosted events to celebrate International Chess Day with the support of the Russian Embassy, the Russian Chess Federation, and the Moscow Chess Museum.
More than 100 Zambian schoolchildren attended the "Chess Museum" photo exhibition, which served as the program's opening event and took place at the Lusaka National Museum.
Russian language students Bukatami, Salim, and Tami guided the tours, having studied both the exhibition and additional materials to effectively represent Russian culture.
On July 19, there was also an open lesson on Russian as a foreign language, explaining why the chess piece known as the queen in English is called the "ferz" in Russian.
Moreover, a chess tournament was held on Saturday, attracting many chess enthusiasts from Zambia. The competition featured three categories: girls, children under 12, and those 12 and older. The Zambia Chess Federation assisted with the judging.
