BRICS countries, during a three-day round table of geological departments in Moscow, supported the creation of a common geological platform, which was presented by Evgeny Petrov, the head of the Russian Federal Agency for Mineral Resources, the press service of the agency said in a statement.
"In the course of the round table, Evgeny Petrov presented the platform and spoke about the features of working with it. .... The heads of geological agencies of the BRICS countries noted the importance of the platform in the interaction between the countries and supported its creation," Rosnedra said.
Within the framework of the platform, it is supposed to share knowledge, technological development, the exchange of practical experience, and joint events, the agency said.
The conceptual structure of the platform envisages a coordination council, a commission on joint projects, a council on technology transfer, a working group on the most important minerals, a group of experts, and target groups of agencies.
The Russian agency specified that the meetings will generate new ideas, give suggestions, develop joint plans, and prepare projects for meetings of heads of geological agencies.
Prospects for cooperation may include such areas of interaction as geological exploration, regional geological research, and strategic mineral resources. In addition to this, scientific and technical developments in the field of digitalization in geology would also be considered, Rosnedra explained.
The round table of BRICS countries' geological departments is being held in Moscow from July 15 to 17. Petrov noted that the geological agencies of the BRICS countries are gathering for the first time.
