The Malawian government hosted the Malawi Mining Investment Forum (MMIF) for nationals living abroad on Saturday.
The Minister of Mining, Monica Chang’anamuno, explained during the press briefing that "the 2024 MMIF for the diaspora aims to create a collaborative environment where Malawians living abroad can learn about investment opportunities within Malawi's mining industry."
The minister also stressed the importance of the government’s goal to create a supportive environment in the mining sector "to attract both foreign and local investments."
The event included seminars designed specifically for Malawians living abroad, as well as special investment prospects in the country's mining industry.
More than 200 people were anticipated to attend and discuss ideas for harnessing Malawi's abundant natural resources, which include rare earth elements, graphite, uranium, gold, and gemstones. Under the theme "Global Connections, Local Impact: Investing in Malawi's Minerals," the forum offered a platform for the global diaspora community to engage with the Minister and officials from the Ministry, allowing them to ask questions and participate in discussions.
While addressing the community, Chang’anamuno underlined that the involvement of fellow Malawians is crucial to achieving "the Vision 2063 blueprint for national development and wealth creation."
“We are eager to partner with investors who share our vision of sustainable development and who are willing to engage with local communities to ensure mutual benefits and long-term success,” Chang’anamuno said.
