The NATO Washington Summit Declaration's China-related paragraphs are full of lies, the Chinese Mission to the European Union said in a statement.
"The NATO Washington Summit Declaration is filled with Cold War mentality and belligerent rhetoric. The China-related paragraphs are provocative, with obvious lies and smears. We firmly reject and deplore these accusations and have lodged serious representations with NATO," the mission said.
It said China is not to blame for the Ukrainian crisis.
"It is known to all that China is not the creator to the Ukraine crisis. China’s position on Ukraine is open and aboveboard. We aim to promote peace talks and a seek political settlement. This position is endorsed and commended by the broader global community," the mission said.
The mission also drew attention to the alliance continuously playing up the connection between European and Asia-Pacific security, urging NATO to remain a regional defense organization in the North Atlantic.
"The Asia-Pacific region is a place for peaceful development, not a wrestling ground for geopolitical competition ... NATO should not become the disruptor of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific or a tool used by certain power to maintain hegemony," the mission said.
The Washington Summit Declaration in particular called on China "to cease all material and political support to Russia’s war effort," which allegedly includes "the transfer of dual-use materials, such as weapons components, equipment, and raw materials that serve as inputs for Russia’s defense sector."
The United States has long suspected that Chinese companies have been providing military support to Russia - a claim that both countries have denied.
China has said it is a neutral party in the Ukraine conflict and emphasized that it does not take advantage of the conflict to sell weapons to any party.
Russia has been conducting a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. President Vladimir Putin has said the operation aims to "protect people subjected to genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." According to the president, the ultimate goal of the operation is to liberate Donbas and create conditions that guarantee Russia's security.
