The Leo Tolstoy International Peace Prize has been launched in Russia. Created by the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Peace Foundation, and the Russian Military Historical Society, the Prize will be awarded for outstanding merits in activities aimed at preventing a third world war and a nuclear catastrophe.
It also recognizes significant contributions to universal security, stopping the arms race, building a multipolar and non-violent world, and important achievements in demilitarization, democratization, and humanization of international relations.
The prize can be awarded to individuals as well as to organizations and movements. The laureates are selected by an international jury of eminent personalities.
The award ceremony will be held in Moscow on September 9, the birthday of the classic writer Leo Tolstoy.
