A Wednesday downpour flooded the Iyana-Oworo and Olopo Meji areas in Lagos, Nigeria. The flooding made the road nearly impassable, causing traffic jams and inconvenience for commuters, according to posts on X.
Such heavy rains are particularly dangerous for the country because it's dealing with an outbreak of cholera, and contaminated water only helps the disease spread.
Three weeks ago, the Nigerian Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) alerted the public to an increase in cholera cases nationwide due to the intensifying rainy season.
On Monday, the NCDC established a National Cholera Emergency Operations Center after reporting 53 deaths and 1,528 suspected cases.
