The South African National Assembly reelected Ramaphosa as president last week after his African National Congress (ANC) formed a national unity government with two smaller parties.
"They also discussed the US-South Africa bilateral relationship, and areas of future partnership, including leadership in the G20," the White House said in a press release on Tuesday.
Biden and Ramaphosa vowed to strengthen ties and advance the shared interests of the two nations, including growing economic prosperity, the release said.
In May, US Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs Molly Phee told Congress during a hearing that the United States will continue to raise concerns with South Africa about its ties to Russia and China after its elections.
Moreover, the US Department of Commerce has restricted exports from six UK, China, UAE, and South African corporations. The department published this notification in the US government's official papers.
The document states that Chinese companies Global Training Solutions Limited and Smartech Future Limited, South African Grace Air, and UK-based Livingston Aerospace have been sanctioned for their ties to the Test Flying Academy of South Africa. This academy has been under US sanctions since 2023. These firms are accused of training Chinese soldiers with US and NATO technology.
UAE companies Mega Fast Cargo and Mega Technique General Trading were placed on the restricted list for allegedly delivering US products to Russia after February 2022. Washington claims this violates national security and foreign policy objectives.
