The option of a floating nuclear power plant will be the most optimal for the Republic of the Congo, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom head Alexey Likhachev said on Thursday.
"For the Congo, the option of a small floating nuclear power plant will be the most acceptable at the stage of the development of nuclear technologies," Likhachev told the Rossiya 24 broadcaster.
Russia's partners in the Congo are very interested in medical issues, including nuclear and other renewable energy sources, Likhachev added.
In early June, Rosatom stated that Russia and the Republic of Guinea signed a memorandum providing for the construction of floating nuclear power plants.
A floating nuclear power plant is a nuclear power station that is built on a ship or a platform that can float on water. Instead of being on land, this kind of power plant can be moved to different locations by water. It has nuclear reactors on board that produce electricity, just like a regular nuclear power plant. This electricity can then be used to power cities, towns, or industrial projects, especially in remote areas where building a traditional power plant might be difficult.
