There are no US military bases in Zambia, and the country has no plans to establish them there, Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM) Gen. Michael Langley said on Thursday.
"Oh, that's also absolutely false. We have no bases in Zambia. We have no plans to put one there. So, our approach is African-led and US-enabled. So, we work closely, we have a deepened partnership with Zambia and there is no base … there are no plans for a base," Langley told reporters at a briefing after the 2024 African Chiefs of Defense Conference in Botswana, responding to Zimbabwe's accusations of militarizing Zambia and US plans to move AFRICOM into the country without its consent.
