"On June 25, 2024, at the initiative of the US side, a phone conversation of Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd was held," the ministry said.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin initiated the call with the Russian counterpart, confirmed Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder on Tuesday.
Belousov and Austin exchanged views on the situation around Ukraine, the message read.
"Belousov pointed out the risks of further escalation of the situation due to the ongoing deliveries of American weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces. Other topics were also discussed," the defense ministry said.
