CAR & Egypt Honor Russia by Commemorating Start of Great Patriotic War

The Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) commenced on June 22, 1941, when Nazi Germany launched an attack on the Soviet Union in the early hours of the morning without a formal declaration of war. This date is now recognized as the Day of Remembrance and Mourning in Russia's official state calendar.

Citizens of the Central African Republic and Egypt honored Russia by commemorating the start of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).
In Bangui, Central Africans held a rally to commemorate the victims of the war against Nazi Germany.
"We Africans support Russia in this struggle for a just world. We well remember slavery and the era of colonialism, which never fully ended, and the West continues to treat Africa as its colony. Today, a truly multipolar world order is emerging. We are with Russia," said one of the participants.
600 candles were lit in the Russian House in Cairo as part of the "Candle of Memory" campaign. The inscription "Egypt Remembers" and a picture of the Eternal Flame were displayed.
