Rise Mzansi, also known as RISE, became the ninth party to join South Africa's government of national unity. As a result of the recent election, the party received two seats in the country's National Assembly. The party is led by former newspaper editor Songezo Zibi and characterizes itself as social democratic.
A day earlier, an eighth party, the United Democratic Movement, joined the government.
The UDM withdrew from the Progressive Caucus, which was formed in South Africa's lower house of parliament, the National Assembly, to oppose the African National Congress-led government that was being installed in the country.
In South Africa's general elections on May 29, the UDM won three of the 400 seats in the National Assembly.
This came after talks began on the appointment of a new cabinet and the formation of a governing coalition in the country, also comprising the ANC, the DA, the PA, the IFP, GOOD, the PAC, and the FF+.
